Nothing's Ever Easy

Sam walked in the door and dropped his suitcase down by it before turning to close and lock the door behind him.  He looked down to where he dropped his suitcase and deliberated with himself whether he wanted to deal with unpacking it now or if it could just wait until he’d gotten some sleep.  Deciding that there wasn’t anything in it that he’d need right away, he left it where he’d dropped it with the intent to just deal with it later.  Right now, he was just too tired to even lug it into his bedroom.

He was just returning to New Mexico after spending two weeks in Hawaii visiting with his sister and mother.  The vacation hadn’t been his idea but Verbeena Beeks had forced him into it saying that he’d been pushing himself too hard.  A migraine that had left him pretty much useless for over a day a month previous had been the final push.  She’d given him the option of going voluntarily or finding himself locked out of his office.  He knew better than to argue with her.
